New effects in an ultracompact Young's double nanoslit with plasmon hybridization

چکیده
We present a theoretical study on the anomalous transmission of an asymmetric Young’s double metallic nanoslit with an ultrathin interval. The slit–slit interactions show exotic optical properties, particularly strong suppression of light transmission with narrow bandwidth and red/blue shifting of transmission peaks from individual slits, in contrast to currently welldeveloped subwavelength optical structures. Dip transmission is also observed to gradually decay with increasing interval distance. Analysis results reveal that such a phenomenon physically lies in the hybridized cross-talking of surface modes within two slits throughout the interval film in between. Depending on the plasmon hybridization type, either symmetric or antisymmetric, the newly induced optical phase retardation between the two slits can decrease and increase, respectively. This investigation suggests a potential way of nonlinearly bonding metallic waveguides and consequently aiding in the design of new plasmonic devices. 1 Author to whom any correspondence should be addressed. Ultrahigh Contrast One-Way Optical Transmission Through a Subwavelength Slit
We computationally demonstrate one-way optical transmission characteristics of a subwavelength slit. We comparatively study the effect in single layer and double layer metallic corrugations. We also investigate the effect of a dielectric spacer layer between double corrugations to control the volumetric coupling of plasmon and optical modes. We computationally show unidirectional transmission b...

We propose a new scheme on unidirectional surface plasmonpolariton (SPP) excitation with the following advantages: ultracompact size, working at arbitrary incidence angle and over a wide spectrum. The proposed structure utilizes a partially filled metallic slot with dielectric to realize unidirectional SPP excitation via direct field manipulation. We theoretically and numerically show that unid...

We demonstrated a real-time monitoring of live cells upon laminar shear stress stimulation via surface plasmon resonance (SPR) in gold nanoslit array. A large-area gold nanostructure consisted of 500-nm-period nanoslits was fabricated on a plastic film using the thermal-annealed template-stripping method. The SPR in the gold nanoslit array provides high surface sensitivity to monitor cell adhes...
متن کاملThe origin of interferometric effect involving surface plasmon polariton in scattering near-field scanning optical microscopy.
Scattering near-field scanning optical microscopy (s-NSOM) has been developed to characterize optical near field with spatial resolution on the order of 10 nm. In this work we report investigation of the interferometric patterns commonly occurred in s-NSOM measurements. To reveal the origin of such interference patterns, a simple nanoslit is used. Comparing the measured result with a simplified...
